Wayside Inn 1868 -

446 City Rd, corner Ferrars Street, South Melbourne
MEL: 2K D1

Wayside Inn, 2004

The first publican of the Wayside Inn was James B Lamond, a former barman in 1868 at one of Melbourne’s earliest hotels, Scott’s Hotel in Bourke Street. The hotel was rebuilt in 1915, probably in response to the mass-closure of hotels that was due, in part, to the declining quality of buildings and services.  The Wayside Inn still operates as a hotel, yet its layout and menu owe more to contemporary bar, rather than traditional pub culture.
